Nothing tells the story of Athabasca University better than the success of our students and alumni - people who are making their marks on the job and in their communities. The Athabasca University Alumni Awards celebrate the achievements and contributions of our graduates (and soon-to-be graduates) in four categories.

Do you know an AU alum who's making a difference? Nominate a friend, colleague or family member in one of four categories:

The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes the accomplishments of an AU graduate who has brought honour and prestige to the university. The recipient of the award is selected based on evidence of:

• outstanding contributions to any field of human endeavor;
• extraordinary contributions to his or her community; and
• exemplary service to Athabasca University.

The Rising Star Award recognizes an AU graduate who has demonstrated leadership and made significant contributions to area(s) of expertise early in his or her career or who has recently advanced significantly in his or her career. The recipient of the award is selected based on evidence of:

• substantial contributions and demonstrations of leadership, either early in their career or immediately after a significant career change;
• rapid career advancement;
• significant success at an early age or in a new industry; and
• exemplary service to Athabasca University.

The Future Alumni Award recognizes the leadership, service and potential of a current AU student who has completed a minimum of 15 course credits at AU. The recipient of the award is selected based on evidence of:

• leadership in and substantial contributions to community or career while balancing the demands of student life;
• academic excellence and potential for future personal and professional growth and achievement; and
• exemplary service to Athabasca University and fellow students.

The Volunteer Service Award recognizes an AU graduate for volunteer service that demonstrates having made a difference to the well-being of others, at home or abroad. The recipient of the award is selected based on evidence of:

• a spirit of volunteerism and community service demonstrated through active, unpaid involvement in and contributions to his or her community; and
• a record of exceptional commitment, service, creativity, co-operation or leadership that inspires others to engage in volunteer service.

 

Nomination Requirements and Procedures

Anyone can nominate a candidate for an Athabasca University Alumni Award including the friends, colleagues and family members of nominees. Awards are open to all graduates of Athabasca University with the exception of serving politicians or those serving on the Board of Governors of Athabasca University. Self-nominations are not accepted.
